Actually, this bench is fashioned after the highly sought after curule chairs. Curule chairs are very rare to find inexpensively, and are often seen apart of Empire decorating. Many of these French pieces were inspired pieces from Etruscan artifacts from Egypt. In ancient Egypt, curule chairs were designed for the
officials of the highest government dignitaries. It was originally made of
ivory, without arms and it was usually inlaid with ivory and precious metals. It
served a seat for the positioned in power, and later the emperor himself.
Elle Decor featured French Decorator Frédéric Méchiche's neoclassical apartment straight out of Versailles. The room was bathed in soft grays with exquisite architectural details. Marble columns, and grand gilded moldings are paired with ornate chandelier and extravagant art. Geometrical patterns adorn the floor, and dark saturated paint colors with hues of blue and gray are chosen for the walls. Frédéric Méchiche's work originally was published in ELLE DECORATION France, and in the special issue of Elle Decor January February 2012. If you look into these pictures you will see this very high end neoclassical chair upholstered in a green silky fabric with the base painted in white.
